Sigma Theta Tau International

Sigma Theta Tau, International Nursing Honor Society, was founded in 1922 by six nursing students at Indiana University. Since that time Sigma Theta Tau International has expanded to 356 honor societies world-wide making it the second largest nursing organization in the United States and one of the five largest in the world.

Membership is by invitation to individuals who demonstrate excellence in scholarship and leadership in their chosen profession.

Zeta Omega is the Westchester/Rockland County-at-Large Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. This four school chapter received its chapter in 1984 and was the first at-large chapter in the history of Sigma Theta Tau. The four schools include:

  • The College of New Rochelle
  • Dominican College of Blauvelt
  • Mercy College
  • Pace University

Twelve years later this at-large chapter concept is encouraged by international headquarters and continues to foster the stated purpose of Sigma Theta Tau International by recognizing superior achievement, developing leadership qualities, fostering high professional standards, and strengthening commitment to the nursing profession.

Zeta Omega is an active at-large chapter on the move and facilitates the stated purpose of the Sigma Theta Tau International.
