Dr. Mary Alice Donius
Dean, School of Nursing

Dr. Mary Alice Donius has been Dean of The College of New Rochelle School of Nursing since 2006. Previously she was an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing, and Coordinator of the College’s master’s program in nursing. 

Formerly, Dr. Donius had a faculty practice at Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle, NY. In addition, she held previous positions as clinician and educator in a variety of hospital settings and at the Columbia University School of Nursing, where she was Director of the Undergraduate Program. Immediately preceding her faculty appointment at the College in 1997, Dr. Donius was Director of Medical Center Education and Professional Development for Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester.  

Her research interests have included the development of an attitude scale to measure caring as a three-dimensional construct of compassion, empathy, and altruism; and the design and implementation of a Caring-Healing Nursing Practice Model intended to increase patient satisfaction and support nursing recruitment and retention.

A graduate of D’Youville College with a bachelor of science in nursing, she holds a master of education and doctor of education from Columbia University Teachers College, and a post-master’s certificate in holistic nursing from The College of New Rochelle.
