Dr. Richard Thompson
Dean, School of Arts & Sciences
Dr. Richard Thompson has been the Dean of The College of New Rochelle School of Arts & Sciences since 2004. Prior to his joining CNR, he worked for 18 years at Wheelock College in Boston, where he was a faculty member, department chair, and finally Dean of Child and Family Studies. His primary area of expertise is on the emotional care of children in healthcare settings.
Dr. Thompson is the author of several books and numerous articles on this topic, including The Handbook of Child Life: A Guide for Pediatric Psychosocial Care
published in 2009. In addition, he has participated in national research projects on pediatric healthcare; served as Co-Editor of Children’s Health Care, a research journal on the psychosocial care of children and families in pediatric settings; and was given the Distinguished Service Award of the Child Life Council, an organization of which he served as president.
Dr. Thompson graduated from Carleton College with a bachelor of arts in history, the University of Louisville with a master of arts in teaching in elementary education, and from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a doctor of philosophy in child and family studies.
