Established in 1980, the Castle Gallery is an art resource for the entire community. Dedicated to teaching and committed to providing a rich diversity of art experiences, the Castle Gallery serves school groups and art lovers from throughout Westchester County. Exhibits, lectures, and programs offered by the Castle Gallery cut across a variety of interests, including contemporary fine art, applied design, fine craft, and material culture. Castle Gallery’s exhibitions are free and open to the public, and tours are available to schools and educational organizations. The gallery presents three exhibitions a year from September through June. The Castle Gallery is situated in the historic Leland Castle on the main campus of The College of New Rochelle.
The purposes of the Castle Gallery of The College of New Rochelle are to research and prepare exhibitions of the finest cultural and fine arts in one of the nation’s historic landmarks, Leland Castle; to encourage the varied talents of new and established professional artists; to document such art for the community and educational sector through an art resource center; and to present innovative programs through lectures, tours, and outreach programs for the College Community and other educational, cultural, and social organizations.
Our Education Program
In addition to providing the College’s students and faculty access to exhibitions and lectures which address contemporary cultural issues, the Castle Gallery also reaches out to area middle and high school students by providing free guided tours to visiting school groups. For those groups who are unable to visit exhibits in person, the Gallery provides educational kits, which include a selection of slides from exhibitions, accompanying text and questions, and related classroom projects. Area school teachers frequently send individual students to our gallery exhibitions for research on specific topics related to their school curriculum.
The Castle Gallery is supported by contributions from Castle Gallery members and friends of The College of New Rochelle. The Gallery’s exhibition programs are made possible by the generosity of many area museums, galleries, and private collectors.
