Kelly Brennan Named Director of Alumnae/i Relations.
Kelly Brennan was recently named the new Director of Alumnae/i Relations, succeeding Eileen Niedzwiecki. Kelly comes to the College from SUNY Purchase, where she was the Director of Alumni Affairs. Prior to working at Purchase, she was in Alumni Affairs at Columbia University. She also has held various positions in student services and fundraising and served as a consultant for the Fire Department of New York after the September 11 tragedy. A graduate of Iona College, Kelly received her master’s degree in higher education administration from New York University.


College Wins Award
The College received a 2005 Clarion Award in the Special Print Communications category from the Association of Women in Communications for its publication Celebrating a Century of Wisdom for Life 1904-2004. The Clarion Awards recognizes the best works from all communications fields. Entries are judged against the work of their peers in size and budget.

Student Activities Fair


This year's  Student Activity Day was held in the Student Campus Center where new students were introduced to the many clubs and activities at CNR. One of the many tables on display was Campus Ministry's. CNR Chaplain Fr. Joseph Flynn, OFM Cap. and Director of Campus Ministry Helen Wolf  were there to welcome new members and answer any questions the students had about their organization.

Dr. Teri Gamble, Professor of Communication Studies in the Graduate School, co-authored two textbooks with her husband, Michael. The first was the 8th edition of their best-selling text Communication Works, now in its 25th year and published by McGraw Hill. The second book was a new work: Contacts: Interpersonal Communication in Theory, Practice, and Context, published by Houghton Mifflin.


Dr. Kenneth J. Doka, Professor of Gerontology in the Graduate School, will be honored this month as “Man of the Year” by Hospice Iinc. of Dutchess, Ulster, and Greene Counties. This past year, Dr. Doka was one of three editors of the book entitled, Ethical Dilemmas at the End-of-Life.


In the spring semester, Dr. Frank Rizza, Assistant Professor of Career Development in the Graduate School Department of Career Counseling, semester earned a certification as a Rational Emotive Behavior Sexual and Relational Therapist, from the Albert Ellis Institute.


Dr. Amy Bass, Assistant Professor of History in the School of Arts & Sciences, participated in AmericaSpeaks/Global Voices, part of Clinton Global Initiative held in September in New York City.  m o r e


Dr. Susan Canning, Professor of Art History in the School of Arts & Sciences, has curated this year’s opening exhibit in the Castle Gallery, R3:  Reading ‘Ritin ‘Rithmetic, 30 Years Laterm o r e


Dr. Cristina DeGennaro, Associate Professor of Art in the School of Arts & Sciences, participated in a Senior Artist Residency for Mid-Career Artists at the Oregon College of Art and Craft over the summer. She also gave a public slide presentation on her work and an open studio lecture as part of the residency program.


Dr. Michael Grabowski, Assistant Professor of Communication Arts in the School of Arts & Sciences, presented papers at the Eastern Communication Association in April on, “Appealing to the Young Non-Voter: Michael Moore’s Slacker Tour,” “Teaching as an Ecological Activity,” and “Greater Expectations in News Media Research: Competitive Papers.”


A L U M N A E / I  N E W S

Ellen Hancock ’65 was selected by The Committee of 200 (C200), an organization of top women business owners and corporate leaders, as the recipient of its ninth annual Technology Innovator Luminary Award. Hancock is the former Chairwoman and CEO of Exodus Communications. The award was presented on September 24 at the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, in conjunction with C200’s annual conference.



Former president of Northwestern Connecticut Community College Dr. Regina M. Duffy ’41 was honored in June 2005 with the naming of the college’s Administration Building in her honor. Dr. Duffy served as NCCC president from 1968 to 1985.
