CNR
Students Participate
in cIcu’s Annual Lobby Day
in Albany
(continued)
CNR was one of approximately 40 institutions participating in Lobby
Day. CNR
sent five students, Claire Fu SAS’05, Sidonie Grier SNR’04, Judith
Jeremie SAS’05, Aarian Pope SNR’04, and Gina Truhe SAS’05, all New York
State residents and TAP recipients, to Albany to meet with their state
legislators to lobby against proposed cuts to the TAP program.
Accompanying the students were CNR Lobby Day Coordinator and Director
of Government Relations Terri Eberle Boyle, Admissions Counselor Marie
McGillycuddy SAS’03, and friend of the College Malcolm Punter.
The group visited the offices of Senators
Montgomery, Mendez, and
Oppenheimer and Assemblymen Wright, Kaufman, Bradley, and Tocci,
meeting personally with several

legislators or with members of their
staff. Photos of two CNR students, Gina Truhe and Aarian Pope, appear
on postcards being distributed to support the cause. While in
Albany,
they had the opportunity to articulate two different perspectives on
the issue as Gina is a traditional-age student with three siblings also
in college, and Aarian is an adult student and single parent of a young
daughter. “All of the legislators and their staff members were
attentive and supportive,” said Ms. Boyle, “and assured us that they
would oppose cuts to TAP.”
According to cIcu, a significant cut to the Tuition
Assistance
Program (TAP) is among the proposals included in the Executive Budget
for SFY 2004-05, so you are encouraged to ask policymakers to honor
their commitment to New York’s signature student aid program. To have
