CNR Receives One Million Dollars
United States Senators Clinton and Schumer secured $1 million for CNR from the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill, passed by Congress and signed by the President.  Funds will be used for streetscape and roadway improvements related to the construction of the Wellness Center.

Ursuline High School Students Return to CNR
for Third Summer of Residence and Volunteer Work



Over 50 students from five Ursuline High Schools spent the last week of June on campus at CNR. This annual event is hosted by the College and the students come together for a weekend of friendship and service to others. The students spent the week working in a variety of service projects, including the Midnight Run to New York City, organized by Campus Ministry.


New Name for CCD&P
The Office of Counseling, Career Development and Placement Services has a new name—Counseling and Career Services. Although the name has changed, the office will continue to provide the same services, including individual counseling, workshops, programs, and in-class presentations on a wide variety of personal and career topics. For the past 25 years, CNR has been one of the locations for Center for Montessori Teacher Education/NY academic programs. Infant & Toddler and Early Childhood Institutes are held during the summer months and attract Montessori teachers from across the United States to the main campus of The College of New Rochelle.

New York State Senator Jeff Klein visits New Rochelle Campus and speaks to Nursing Students


On Tuesday, June 28, 2005, New York State Senator Jeff Klein visited CNR and met with
Dr. Connie Vance and some CNR nursing students in her class to discuss pressing health care policy issues and how legislators may partner with nurses to improve health care for the public.


SNR Students March in Bronx Puerto Rican Parade


On Sunday, August 7, students from several city campuses of CNR marched for the third year in the Annual Bronx Puerto Rican Parade. The students were enrolled in the Summer Institute, Cultural Festivals of New York City, taught by Professor Dale Drakeford. The students carried the CNR banner and marched with John Cardinal O’Connor Campus Director Dr. Marguerite Coke-Maxwell. The SNR parade organizers were Delphine Hill-Smith, Assistant to the Director of SNR, from JOC, and Judith Balfe, Director of Marketing and Recruitment, School of New Resources.

Faculty and Staff Notes
Jennifer Zazo, Director of the Castle Gallery, was selected to participate in a workshop on the management of museum collections presented by the Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies. The workshop takes place during the week of September 26-30 in Washington, D.C.


Dr. Marguerite Coke-Maxwell, Campus Director, and Delphine Hill-Smith, Assistant to the Director, at John Cardinal O’Connor Campus, SNR, recruited at the BID Festival on Saturday, July 25. This is a huge event that is part of Bronx Week.


Dr. Barbara Cutney, Associate Professor of Philosophy, SAS, appeared in the Samuel French One-Act Play Festival for the second year in a row this summer. Dr. Cutney played the part of Sarah in the play “Crazy Street” by Lila Gilbert.


Dr. Amy Bass, Assistant Professor of History and Director of the Honors Program of the School of Arts & Sciences, new book In the Game: Race, Identity, and Sports in the 20th Century has just been published. In the Game follows the themes from her first book, Not the Triumph but the Struggle: the 1968 Olympic Games and the Making of the Black Athlete, published in 2002.

Media Mogul Sweeney Honored by Industry

Anne Sweeney, SAS ’79, Co-Chairman Disney, Media Networks, President Disney-ABC Television Group, will be honored on October 24 at the 15th Annual Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame dinner. This annual event honors the industry’s leading pioneers, innovators and stars of the electronic arts.
