announced
that it has been awarded the Advanced Education Nursing Traineeship for
$34,335

Fifth Annual CNR Golf & Tennis Outing
The Fifth Annual CNR Golf & Tennis Outing is
scheduled
for September 25, 2006 at the Donald Ross designed course of Siwanoy
Country
Club in Bronxville, New York. The Shotgun Start will be at 12:30 pm,
after
registration and brunch. A silent auction conducted by Steiner Sports,
a
raffle, door prizes, and awards will be held during dinner. For more

Megan Skrip SAS ’07 was selected
to participate in the 2006 National Collegiate Honors Council
conference
to be held in Philadelphia in November. Her poster on Exotic
Interactions:
Zebra Mussel Survival & Settlement in the Beds of Nonnative Water
Chestnuts
vs. Native Water Celery in the Hudson River will be on display at the
conference.
Blanca Paccha SAS ’08 was awarded an
NIH Undergraduate Scholarship for the 2006-2007 academic year.
As part of the award, she will work in an NIH lab next summer. Blanca
is
also one of 15 recipients to receive a scholarship from the Connecticut
Association
of Latinos in Higher Education for the coming academic year.

Associate Professor Susan Acampora attended the American
Library
Association's Annual Convention in New Orleans in June and volunteered
with
ALA's "Libraries Build Communities" project," a community service
restoration
effort to help rebuild local neighborhoods and their libraries after
Hurricane
Katrina.
Director
of Campus Ministry Helen Wolf
and Rosann Santos, Director of
Student
Development and Programs, attended the international Ursuline educators
conference
held at Santa Ursula University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The CNR
staff
members represented the College at this conference. Over 120 educators
from
North and South America attended, as well as South Africa and Taiwan.
Helen
Wolf assisted with music at some of the liturgical celebrations and
wrote
the closing prayer service.

asked by the university to bring a symbol of CNR to the conference and
she
brought a print of “Love One Another” a painting by artist Laura James
that
was commissioned by the College for CNR's Centennial Year.
Dr. Anthony Cosenza, Associate
Professor
of Special Education in the Graduate School, recently published Crisis Intervention Christ-Is
Intervention,
Volume I. In his book, Dr. Cosenza unveils the biblical origin
and
characteristics of “spiritual valueness.”
I N M E M O R I A M
Mary Lofton, Assistant to the
Librarian
at the Brooklyn Campus of SNR, passed away after a long illness on
February
7, 2006.
Sr. Loretta Shanahan, OSU, died on
February
23, 2006. Sr. Loretta taught philosophy, history and psychology of
education
at the College from 1953 to 1955.
Sr. Eugenia Marie Garvey, OSU,
a
graduate of the CNR Class of 1944, died on April 11, 2006. Sr. Eugenia
returned
to CNR to teach English in 1969, and later in her CNR career worked in
the
administration and then from 1981 to 1986 in the Writing Center and the
School
of New Resources.
Dr. Maria Zubritski passed away
after
a long illness on March 22, 2006. Dr. Zubritski joined the School of
New
Resources in 1992 as a member of the Instructional Staff in the
School’s
New York Theological Seminary Campus. She transferred to the Rosa Parks
Campus
in 1995 and retired in 2005.

Kelly Clark GS ’05 has a solo exhibit entitled, “A
Photographic
Journey of India” hanging in the Mooney Center Exhibit Hall. The show
will
be on display through September 25. Ms. Clark is a Nyack-based artist,
freelance
photographer, and art teacher. m o r e
Artist's Statement
Cheryl A. Croce GS ’88, who has her
Masters
of Science in therapeutic education from CNR, was recently appointed
lifestyle
director for the Classic Residence by Hyatt in Yonkers, New York.
Mary Jane Reddington SAS ’45
will be honored for her 35-plus years of service to the United Way at
the
organization’s annual Leadership Dinner at the Davenport Club on
October
18.
Sr. Dorothy Ann Kelly, OSU ’51 will
present
the fall Ursuline Institute Lecture on Thursday, October 5, 2006, at
7:30
p.m. in Romita Auditorium. Her talk “A Pilgrim’s Story—The 150th
Anniversary
of the Ursulines in New York: Inheriting the Past/Embracing the Future”
will
trace the evolution of ministries undertaken by Ursuline communities
and
by individual Ursulines.
At a ceremony
at New Rochelle City Hall on September 6, 2006, The Coalition for
Mutual Respect awarded the Yitzhak Rabin Peacemaker Award to Sister
Dorothy
Ann Kelly for her lifetime
in the service of others.
Joan Varrone SAS ’72
was recently appointed the Chief Financial Officer of SenSage, Inc, the
leading
provider of scaleable log management solutions. Most recently Ms.
Varrone
served as CFO at Optiva, Inc., a South San Francisco-based
nanotechnology
developer. She received her BA in Mathematics from CNR, an MS in
operations
research from Purdue University, and an MBA in finance and
international
business from New York University. Ms. Varrone is a resident of San
Francisco,
California.
