The 2007 Dowell Lecture
delivered by
best-selling author Amy Hill Hearth
The 2007 Dowell Lecture was delivered by Amy Hill Hearth, a New York Times best-selling author
of the oral history story, Having
Our Say: The Delany Sisters’ First 100 Years. Ms. Hearth spoke
in Romita Auditorium of the Mooney Center
on the evening of March 8, 2007. In her introduction of Ms. Hearth, Dr.
Roblyn Rawlins, Assistant Professor of Sociology and Chair of the
Women’s Studies Program of the School of Arts
and Sciences, reminded the audience that March 8 was a fitting day for
the lecture as it was also International Women’s Day, the global day
that is set aside to connect all the women around the world and inspire
them to achieve their full potential.

Certification

Guest speakers at the College Senate's March meeting were
Joseph Tattoni (pictured above) and Charles Maira, principal
architects of ikon.5, the firm that designed the College's new Wellness Center. The two architects
explained the Green Building/LEED Certification process and spoke about
the special “green building” aspects of the Wellness Center.
Charles Maira discussed the design and construction practices that are
involved in making a “green building” possible and noted that what CNR
is
doing today will become common environmental practice in building
construction in the future.

closely with professional educators at the Hale House Learning Center
in Manhattan. The Learning Center serves children ages 6 weeks through
5 years, promoting intellectual, physical, social, emotional and
language development. Pictured above are (l.-r.): Regina Burrus SN’10,

simplicity, community, and reflection, completed in Naugatuck, West
Virginia at the Big Laurel Learning Center. CNR volunteers provided
day-care and tutored students, as well assisted with outdoor
maintenance and environmental activities. The 2007 Rural Plungers are

“As
an all women’s college, CNR really helped me concentrate on my

newsrooms and television stations to really understand the broadcasting
industry.”

Angela Cascarano is a segment
producer at Fox 5 News. She currently
produces consumer segments for “Shame, Shame, Shame.” Angela began her
career at Fox 5 News in 2001 as an intern and worked her way up the
ranks producing investigative and feature segments for the Ten O’clock
News. In 2002 she co-produced an Emmy Award winning segment “Fake
Rabbi.” Her investigative news team uncovered a man posing as a Rabbi
who illegitimately married couples throughout the tri-state area. She
was nominated again in 2003 for a business/consumer segment on a
work-at-home job scam.
This April, Angela
won another Emmy Award for
her team’s work on “Car Bucks.” The feature was about an illegal
internet car-selling scam and was shown on “Shame, Shame, Shame,” the
popular news segment hosted by reporter and consumer investigator
Arnold Diaz (pictured with Angela at right). She has also field
produced
major news stories such as, The 9/11 Anniversary, the plane crash of
New York Yankee pitcher Cory Lidle, and the NYC Subway strike.
Angela holds a BA in Communication Arts from The College of New
Rochelle.

"Students who are committed to their intellectual,
cultural, and social
development are successful in the language department, which offers
them the opportunity to become fluent in another language and
literate in another culture. Those who feel they lack oral
proficiency can seek tutoring in French, Italian, or Spanish
or enroll in Latin or ancient Greek, both of which are taught
as literary not spoken languages."
