Another in a

Convocations held in celebration of the CNR Centennial Year took place
on Thursday, February 19, 2004.

Historical
commentary which detailed
CNR's long-standing commitment to diversity was provided by College
Historian
James T. Schleifer.

Keynote
speaker Cornel West of
Princeton University spoke to an overflowing crowd in Holy Family
Chapel.
About
Cornel West

In an
electrifying presentation
that was both passionate and perceptive, Dr. West spoke on “At
Our
Heart: Diversity”

Dr. West's
words thrilled, delighted,
and engaged the enthralled audience of over seven hundred students,
faculty
and invited guests who filled the chapel and the main parlors of the
Castle.

Prior to the
Academic Convocation,
there was a reception held in Gill Library for the unveiling of a
painting in the Library Alumnae Reading Room. Commisioned for the CNR
Centennial,
the painting, entitled CNR, Love One
Another, is a celebration of the College's
diversity. The work was done by artist Laura James, whose style
comprises
Biblical themes using Ethiopian Christian iconography. Using bright
colors,
intricate patterns, and sometimes surreal imagery, Ms. James paints
women,
families and scenes of everyday life.
