THE COLLEGE
OF NEW ROCHELLE TO HOST
PHOTO EXHIBIT
BY DR. LOUIS DESALLE

NEW ROCHELLE, NY, January 9, 2004 -- From February 12 through May 31,
The College of New Rochelle (CNR) is hosting an exhibit by administrator
Dr. Louis deSalle entitled "Framing Nature, Color, Form and Light,” at
the Gordon Parks Gallery at its School of New Resources (SNR) John Cardinal
O’Connor Campus (332 East 149th Street, Bronx). The exhibit, Dr.
deSalle’s first solo effort, showcases how landscapes are transformed by
light; none of the photos in the exhibit require the use of special filters
to enhance them. Admission to the exhibit is free and open to the
public but is by appointment only. There will be an opening reception at
the Gordon Parks Gallery on Thursday, February 12, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.;
those who wish to attend must RSVP in advance. For information, directions
or to RSVP, please call (718) 665-1310.
Dr. deSalle, who grew up in Queens, NY, formed his love of nature while
attending college in Vermont. He developed his interest in photography
in order to capture the beauty that surrounded him in rural Vermont.
Dr. DeSalle’s photographs, taken in Upstate and Western New York, represent
his continued interest in recording the beauty and sublimity of the natural
world.
Dr. deSalle is the Assistant Dean for Curriculum and Instruction at CNR’s
School of New Resources. His tenure with CNR began in 1979, when
he became Director of the Core Program. He later served as Campus
Director of the New York Theological Seminary Campus at SNR. In addition
to his administrative responsibilities, he has taught Core Seminars and
classes in Philosophy and Religious Studies. Dr. deSalle was graduated
from Bennington College (VT) with a bachelor’s degree and from Columbia
University with a doctorate in Philosophy.
The College of New Rochelle’s School of New Resources is very proud of
its Gordon Parks Gallery, housed at the John Cardinal O’Connor Campus.
Since it opened in 1991, the Gallery has become an important cultural resource
for students, alumnae/i, faculty, and staff at The College of New Rochelle,
as well as for the South Bronx community. It has provided opportunities
for both established and emerging artists to exhibit their work.
The first
Catholic college for women in New York State, The College of New Rochelle
was founded in 1904 by the Ursuline Order. Today, it comprises the all-women
School of Arts & Sciences, and three schools which admit women and
men: the School of New Resources (for adult learners), the School of Nursing
and the Graduate School. The main campus of the College is located
in lower Westchester County, 16 miles north of New York City. The
College maintains six other campus locations in New York City. Visit the
College’s website at www.cnr.edu.
