THE COLLEGE
OF NEW ROCHELLE TO HOST ART EXHIBIT
BY FACULTY
MEMBER WILLIAM MAXWELL

NEW ROCHELLE, NY, February 5, 2004 -- From February 8 through March
2, The College of New Rochelle (CNR) is hosting a solo exhibit at the Mooney
Center Exhibit Hall by William C. Maxwell, a Professor of Art at the College’s
School of Arts & Sciences. The exhibit, entitled PerfectImperfect,
showcases Professor Maxwell’s recent drawings in graphite, oil, gouache,
and acrylic that reference man’s search for perfection and the paradoxical
nature of this odyssey.
Influenced by the writings of Frederick William Nietzsche (1844-1900),
these drawings continue the “Perfect Circle” series of art works that Professor
Maxwell began in 1992.
Admission to PerfectImperfect is free and open to the public.
There will be an opening reception at the College on Sunday, February 8,
from 2:00-4:00 p.m. The Mooney Center Exhibit Hall is open weekdays from
10 a.m.-5 p.m. and weekends from 12–4 p.m. For information, tours
and directions to The College of New Rochelle, please call (914) 654-5423.
Since 1968, Professor Maxwell has exhibited his paintings, prints and drawings
in the New York area. Museums, universities, corporations, and individuals
in the U.S., Western Europe, Russia, Mexico, Canada, Korea, and Japan have
collected his work. His solo and group exhibitions have been reviewed
in Arts, Art Forum, Flash Art, Village Voice and The New York
Times.
In addition to teaching art at CNR for nearly 30 years, Professor Maxwell
is also an adjunct professor at SUNY/Westchester, teaching at its Valhalla
campus as well as the Westchester Art Workshop in Peekskill. Professor
Maxwell and his artist wife, Dana DeVito, co-direct the contemporary art
gallery, Maxwell Fine Arts, in Peekskill, NY, where he also maintains a
professional studio. He serves on the boards of the Peekskill Educational
Foundation and Peekskill Arts Council.
Mr. Maxwell was graduated from Wagner College (New York) and from Columbia
University (New York) with M.A., Ed.M., and Ed.D. degrees. He and
his wife live in Peekskill, NY.

The first Catholic college for women in New York State, The College
of New Rochelle was founded in 1904 by the Ursuline Order. Today, it comprises
the all-women School of Arts & Sciences, and three schools which admit
women and men: the School of New Resources (for adult learners), the School
of Nursing and the Graduate School. The main campus of the College
is located in lower Westchester County, 16 miles north of New York City.
The College maintains six other campus locations in New York City. Visit
