CNR HEADLINES WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH PROGRAM 
WITH CNN CORRESPONDENT MARIA HINOJOSA

NEW ROCHELLE, NY, February 23, 2004 - In honor of Women's History Month, The College of New Rochelle (CNR) will welcome CNN correspondent Maria Hinojosa to its Main Campus in New Rochelle as guest speaker for the 2004 Dowell Lecture.  She will offer a unique perspective of how women navigate the many challenges of family and career in the 21st century.  The Dowell Lecture series was endowed by Dr. George B. Dowell, in memory of his sister, Elvira M. Dowell, a 1936 graduate of the School of Arts & Sciences.  Join us on:

A native of Mexico City, Maria Hinojosa is a multi-award winning print and broadcast journalist.  Since joining CNN in May 1997, Ms. Hinojosa has covered urban affairs for the network on such high-profile stories as the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the Amadou Diallo case verdict.  She is a former general assignment correspondent for National Public Radio and has held various on-air and producing responsibilities with WNBC-TV, CBS This Morning, CBS radio, WNYC-TV, and WNYC Radio. 

Ms. Hinojosa has written two books, the critically acclaimed memoir Raising Raul: Adventures Raising Myself and My Son and a book that grew from an award-winning story about gang members, Crews - Gang Members Talk with Maria Hinojosa.  Ms. Hinojosa was graduated from Barnard College with a B.A. degree in Latin American studies, political economy and women's studies.


The first Catholic college for women in New York State, The College of New Rochelle was founded in 1904 by the Ursuline Order. Today, it comprises the all-women School of Arts & Sciences, and three schools which admit women and men: the School of New Resources (for adult learners), the School of Nursing and the Graduate School.  The main campus of the College is located in lower Westchester County, 16 miles north of New York City.  The College maintains six other campus locations in New York City.
