CNR HOSTS WESTCHESTER CONSORTIUM FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDIES
13th ANNUAL STUDENT SYMPOSIUM

NEW ROCHELLE, NY, March 27, 2007 – On Thursday, March 29, The College of New Rochelle (CNR) will host the Westchester Consortium for International Studies’ (WCIS) 13th annual Student Symposium featuring student speakers from The College of New Rochelle, Manhattanville College and Marymount College of Fordham University. The symposium will take place at 4:15 p.m. on CNR’s Main Campus, 29 Castle Place, New Rochelle, NY, in Romita Auditorium in the Mooney Center. WCIS initiated the symposium in 1995 to provide undergraduate students in The Consortium’s International Studies Programs the experience of presenting their major research projects in a professional setting. The Consortium enhances this experience by publishing abstracts of each presentation in proceedings of the symposium. CNR School of Arts and Sciences students presenting at the symposium will be Jennifer Lanni, a senior, who will speak about “International Criminal Courts: Saddam Hussein Trial,” and Milena Tercheva, a junior, who will speak about “Preventing Sex Trafficking in Bulgaria.” Other presentations will include “The Impact of Antihatianismo in Hispaniola,” and “Coffee’s Commodity Chain: From the Crop to the Cup.”

The School of Arts & Sciences at CNR enrolls women only. It offers undergraduate degrees in all traditional disciplines of liberal arts and sciences and a number of professional fields. A core curriculum is required and dual-degree programs, interdisciplinary studies, independent-study options, and flexible honors programs are also offered. Founded in 1904 by the Ursuline Order, The College of New Rochelle was the first Catholic college for women in New York State. Today, it comprises the all-women School of Arts & Sciences, and three schools which admit women and men: the School of New Resources (for adult learners), the School of Nursing and the Graduate School.

The Westchester Consortium for International Studies (WCIS), an educational alliance of The College of New Rochelle, Manhattanville College and Marymount College of Fordham University, was founded in 1988 with a grant from the Hitachi Foundation and incorporated in 1989. Dedicated to strengthening the international perspective of its member institutions through their International Studies Programs, the consortium services the larger community of Westchester. Since its founding, WCIS has supported faculty, student, and community learning through a variety of programs: public lectures, symposia, faculty development seminars, overseas study and travel, film series, theater and arts programs, and annual international career evenings.
