THE COLLEGE OF NEW ROCHELLE TO HOST
32ND ANNUAL STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL

NEW ROCHELLE, NY, April 20, 2004 -- For a day of fun-filled outdoor activities appropriate for families of all ages, Westchester residents can turn again to the 32nd Annual Strawberry Festival at The College of New Rochelle.  Part of CNR’s yearlong commemoration of its 100th anniversary, the Centennial Strawberry Festival is taking place on Sunday, May 2, from 12 noon – 5 p.m. on Maura Lawn on the College’s Main Campus in New Rochelle (29 Castle Place).  (Rain location will be CNR’s Student Campus Center.)  Entrance to the event is free but there will be some cost for refreshments and activities.

Off-street parking is available.  For further information, please call (914) 654-5326.

Event highlights include: The Muskrat Band, who will play music representing each decade; The Daisy Chain, a CNR tradition in which seniors walk around campus in gowns; and a disk jockey playing music spanning rag time to hip hop.

The Centennial Strawberry Festival will be an exciting day for families, students, faculty, staff, and alumni.  Kid-oriented activities include face painting, miniature golf, Spin Art, Wax Hand Sculpture, Tiger Jump House, and the Giant Slide.  Refreshments for sale will include chocolate-covered strawberries, strawberry smoothies, strawberry shortcake with ice cream, as well as hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, popcorn, and more.

The Strawberry Festival, which was introduced to CNR in 1973, is the single largest event organized entirely by the College’s undergraduates. The concept of the Strawberry Festival originated in the mid-west during the 1890’s as an American festival celebrating the ripening of strawberries, the blooming of lilacs, and the coming of summer.
