Mr. Ambler succeeds Sr. Jean Baptiste Nicholson, OSU, Principal of The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, who has served The College of New Rochelle Board for almost three decades and as Chairperson since 1998.

According to President Stephen Sweeny, “Mr. Ambler is a man of considerable leadership skills who brings to the Chair of the CNR Board of Trustees extensive experience and passionate commitment to the mission of the College. We are truly fortunate to have at our service a person of such wisdom and dedication as the new Chair of our Board.”

Mr. Ambler recently retired as the General Tax Counsel of Texaco, a position he had held since 1990. He joined Texaco in 1988 as Deputy General Tax Counsel and was formerly Tax Counsel for the Mobil Corporation from 1969---1988. Mr. Ambler began his career with the law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell in 1962, remaining with the firm until 1969. A graduate of Princeton University with a BA in History, Mr. Ambler has a law degree from Columbia University.

He is presently Vice Chair of the Board. In 1999, Mr. Ambler was an honoree at CNR’s Trustee Gala. He is a director of Young Concert Artists, Inc. in New York City and is the senior warden at the Episcopal Church of the Atonement in Quogue, New York. Mr. Ambler is also a member of the Union Club and the Colony Club in New York City.

Dr. Freilich, who has served on CNR’s Board since 2000, brings to this position a wealth of practical experience and an intimate and long history with CNR. “I am confident her support will continue to benefit the College’s commitment to quality education and institutional development,” said Dr. Sweeny.

Since 1998, Dr. Freilich has been the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Consolidated Edison, Inc. and is a member of the Company’s board. A magna cum laude graduate of Barnard College, she attended Columbia University where she earned her masters and Ph.D. in French, as well as an MBA in Finance.
