CNR STUDENT DRAMA GROUP TO OFFER FIRST AREA PRODUCTION
OF TONY-AWARD WINNING MUSICAL CONTACT

NEW ROCHELLE, NY, September 6, 2006 -- The College of New Rochelle today announced that CNR Drama, a college run student drama group, will perform Contact from November 10 to November 19.  It will be the first area production of Susan Stroman’s Tony-winning “best musical” since it departed Lincoln Center in 2002.  All shows will take place in Romita Auditorium on CNR’s Main Campus located at 29 Castle Place, New Rochelle, NY, 10805.  For the performance schedule, tickets and group sales, call (914) 654-5373 or go to www.cnrdrama.org. Directions are at: www.cnr.edu/CNR/cnr-directions.html.

The multi-talented Ms. Stroman, known for her award winning direction and choreography of The Producers, Oklahoma!, The Music Man, and others, won international praise for Contact, reaping multiple Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama League awards in 2000.

With a book by John Weidman, the musical tells three stories of love – one sensual (Swinging), another of unrequited longing (Did You Move?), and the third (Contact), a dreamscape of loneliness and rebirth – told almost entirely through dance.  The cast is an ensemble of dancers who act and actors who dance, performing to music as varied as 19th century ballet, 1940’s big band, and Robert Palmer’s aptly named “Simply Irresistible.”

Contact is staged by Tome’ Cousin, who was a member of the original cast during its entire run on Broadway. Check local listings for dates and times.

CNR Drama’s first production as “The Dramatic Society” was Tennyson’s The Princess performed on June 12, 1906. Today, CNR Drama has the distinction of being the campus club with the longest uninterrupted tenure in the College’s history
