Based on the 1960 cult film by Roger Corman, Little Shop of Horrors was
originally produced off-Broadway, then as a smash movie. In 2003 it was
revived on Broadway. The musical comedy about a man-eating plant
named Audrey II has been hailed as bizarre and brilliant, full of dark
humor and riotous fun.
Laurie Peterson Castaldo will direct the production,
which will be choreographed by CNR graduate student Jessica Bittner
(who also stars as Audrey II). Other CNR students involved in the
production are cast members Cristine Locke (Crystal), Darianna Parra
(Ronette) and Sherna-Lee Wedderburn (Chiffon); monster plant puppeteers
Janine Napierkowski, Sakina Laksimi and Mattie Jalonack; and stage
manager Arielle Ares. Erin Churchill will serve as production stage
manager and JoAnna Marchetti as costumer designer. Ms. Castaldo,
Ms. Churchill and Ms. Marchetti are all CNR alumnae.
New Rochelle resident Steve Loftus (Seymour), Michael
Guy (Mr. Mushnik), BJ Markus (the Dentist), and Peter McClung (Voice of
Audrey II) round out the cast. Music will be directed and
conducted by Kurt Kelley, with set design by Ralph Castaldo and
lighting design by Anne Mitchell.
CNR Drama’s first production, Tennyson’s The Princess, premiered over 100
years ago on June 12, 1906. Today, CNR Drama has the distinction of
being the campus club with the longest uninterrupted tenure in the
College’s history.
