THE COLLEGE OF NEW ROCHELLE ANNOUNCES
WINNERS OF
11th
ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL WOMEN ARTISTS EXHIBITION

NEW ROCHELLE, NY, November 17, 2004 -- The College of New Rochelle
(CNR) announced the Merit Award winners of its 11th Annual High School
Women Artists Exhibition. For the first time in recent history, all
eight winners, hail from the metro-NY area, namely Westchester County,
Long Island, and New Jersey. They include:
- Hannah Bonomo (Cross River, NY),
John Jay High School
- Deborah Chang (Tuckahoe, NY),
Edgemont High School
- Emily Deissler (Merrick, NY),
Calhoun High School
- Allison Dobish (Lawrence, NY),
Lawrence High School
- Katherine Laird (Sleepy Hollow, NY),
The Ursuline School
- Christina Lo (Parlin, NJ), St. John
Vianney High School
- Alexandra Loscher (White Plains,
NY), The Ursuline School
- Jennifer Turi (Blauvelt, NY),
Tappan Zee High School
The annual competition is sponsored by the College’s Office of External
Relations, Media & Photographic Services Department, and the Art
Department of the School of Arts & Sciences (SAS). It was
created to offer aspiring young female artists the opportunity to
showcase their two- and three-dimensional works. High school art
teachers nominate participating students. This year’s competition drew
110 entries from high school juniors and seniors in 38 schools in
Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, and New York.
All participants compete with their peers for awards of merit and gift
certificates from Advanced Photo Labs, Inc. (Ardsley/Scarsdale), Art
& Blueprint Co. (New Rochelle), Art Supply Warehouse (Norwalk, CT),
Golden Artist Colors Inc. (New Berlin, NY), Jake’s Art Center (Mt.
Vernon), Plastic Works (New Rochelle), and CNR’s Bookstore.
Interested participants will also be considered for art scholarships
ranging from $1,000 - $5,000 per year toward tuition upon enrollment in
the Art Department at the School of Arts & Sciences. The Art
Department offers programs in Studio Art, Art Education, Art History,
and Art Therapy.

College of New Rochelle was founded in 1904 by the Ursuline Order.
Today,
it comprises the all-women School of Arts & Sciences, and three
schools
which admit women and men: the School of New Resources (for adult
learners),
the School of Nursing and the Graduate School. The main campus of
the College is located in lower Westchester County, 16 miles north of
