THE COLLEGE OF NEW ROCHELLE TO HOST EXHIBIT
OF PAINTINGS BY TEDD STRATIS

New Rochelle, NY, December 21, 2007-- A solo exhibit by artist Tedd Stratis will be on display at The College of New Rochelle’s (CNR) Mooney Center Exhibit Hall from Saturday, January 5, through Monday, January 28, 2008, with an opening reception to take place on Saturday, January 12 (snow date January 19), from 4 to 6 pm.  The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.

Tedd Stratis uses curvilinear shapes and ribbons of color in his paintings. From a single canvas to diptychs and triptychs, he creates a matrix that is simultaneously a foreground and a background. “These paintings evoke luminosity, the rich color hues create an abstract surface,” says Holly Block, Executive Director of the Bronx Museum of the Arts. “The paint is applied layer upon layer by brush which contributes to the translucent surface quality of these works.” Viewers can enjoy the surface or look beyond it to discover an optical realm of forms that alternately hide or reveal themselves to the eye and to the imagination.

Stratis’ work has been exhibited in New York galleries, museums, and alternative art spaces. Stratis, who received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Hunter College, is founder and president  of The Studio, An Alternative Space for Contemporary Art, a publicly supported not-for-profit arts organization dedicated to the education and promotion of contemporary art. The artist is originally from the Bronx and currently lives and works in Armonk, NY.

The Mooney Center Exhibit Hall is located at The College of New Rochelle, 29 Castle Place in New Rochelle, NY  10805.  Hours:  Monday-Thursday from 9 am to 9 pm, Friday, Saturday and Sundays from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm.  For directions or information, please call (914) 654-5423 or go to: hhttp://www.cnr.edu/CNR/cnr-directions.html#NEWROCHELLE.
