About the College of New Rochelle

Mission and Philosophy
An independent institution of Catholic origin and heritage, the College is committed to intellectual development through the maintenance of the highest standards of academic excellence and of intellectual and spiritual growth.

Dedicated to the education of women and men in the liberal arts and professional studies, the College also reaches out to those who have not had previous access to higher education, emphasizes the concept of lifelong learning, and provides opportunities for spiritual growth in a context of freedom and ecumenism.

Overview
Founded in 1904 by the Order of St. Ursula – 16 years before women won the right to vote, the College has grown from one school with 12 students to four schools with six campuses and over 6,000 students.

The School of Arts and Sciences, established in 1904, continues its tradition of enrolling only women. It offers undergraduate degrees in all traditional disciplines of liberal arts and sciences and a number of professional fields.  A core curriculum is required and dual-degree programs, interdisciplinary studies, independent-study options and flexible honors programs are also offered.

The Graduate School, established in 1969, is co-educational and offers masters degree programs in education, human services, and art & communication studies.  The School is sensitive to the working and parenting responsibilities of the student body and offers courses in the evenings, on weekends, and during summer terms.

The School of Nursing, established in 1976, is widely recognized for innovation and excellence in programming that is responsive to the public’s changing health needs. The School offers five programs: a traditional four-year undergraduate program leading to a bachelor of science in nursing; an accelerated program of study for RNs seeking a B.S.N.; an accelerated B.S.N. program for those holding degrees in other fields; an accelerated RN to M.S. program; and an M.S. degree program with tracks in holistic nursing, acute care nurse practitioner, family nurse practitioner, and administration.

The School of New Resources, established in 1972, is co-educational and an international model for adult learning programs. It offers a liberal arts degree program tailored for adults in an interactive, informal, supportive environment.  A pioneer in adult higher education, the School has provided thousands of individuals from diverse social and economic backgrounds the opportunity to earn a baccalaureate degree. The School maintains six campuses – five in New York City and one on the main campus in New Rochelle.

The College of New Rochelle is a Catholic college in the Ursuline tradition and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds who can contribute to our unique educational mission.
