CNR Hosts Special Olympics Competition on Community Service Day

The Wellness Center was a hub of athletic and creative activity Tuesday, April 8, as The College of New Rochelle played host to a Special Olympics Competition for students from six Westchester County schools.

Students, faculty, and staff, as well as local high school students, organized, officiated, and facilitated the event, which was also Community Service Day at the College.

Activities included basketball, volleyball, bowling, soft toss, and arts and crafts. Students from New Rochelle, Bedford, Lakeland, Portchester, Sleepy Hollow, and Woodlands took part in the competition. The event opened at 4 p.m. with the Special Olympics Oath: "Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt."

The competition was followed by closing ceremonies, with medals and goodie bags for all the athletes.
