Seven Blue Angels Named to All-Academic Team


Seven student-athletes from The College of New Rochelle have been named to the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) 2013 Winter-Spring All-Academic Team, it was announced recently by the conference office. Instituted in the 2010-11 season, the All-Academic Team recognizes excellence both in the field of play and in the classroom.
The softball team had five players recognized to highlight the Blue Angel contingent.  Senior Tanika Charles (Brooklyn, NY/Clara Barton HS) headlines the honorees, earning All-Academic status for the third consecutive season.  Juniors Shamella Bartholomew (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker Academy) and Diana Desir (Spring Valley, NY/Spring Valley), and sophomores Katy Baudendistel (Harpursville, NY/Seton Catholic HS) and Tayler Fisher (Wilmington, DE/Conrad School of Science) round out the softball honorees.
Fisher also was recognized on the women's swimming grouping, along with fellow sophomores Claudia Benitez (White Plains, NY/White Plains HS) and Alexa Pineda (Elmsford, NY/Briarcliff HS)
Of the 90 named All-Academic, 22 also received All-Conference honors in their respective sports and 34 were repeat All-Academic honorees. In total, 227 student-athletes were conferred with All-Academic honors for the 2013-14 academic season.
The All-Academic Team consists of student-athletes who have reached sophomore academic standing and have earned a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or better at the conclusion of the spring semester, and participate in one of the conference's winter or spring sports – men's and women's basketball, women's swimming, men's volleyball, men's tennis, softball and baseball.
