The College of New Rochelle School of New Resources opened the exhibit “Beautiful, Also, Are the Souls of My People” by playwright, painter, and poet Nikki Williams on February 19, 2011. The exhibit, which is in the Gordon Parks Gallery on the the College’s John Cardinal O’Connor Campus in the South Bronx, is open until May 1, 2011.

Nikki Williams is the winner of the Time Warner Cable and Inner City Broadcasting’s Black History Month Photography Contest. An award-winning poet and author of several collections of poetry, her poems have been used in two national anti-domestic violence radio campaigns produced by Ann Tripp of WBLS Radio.

This body of work is a collection of visual images that skillfully combines excerpted poems and speeches written by literary greats from Langston Hughes to President Barack Obama, photographic images depicting African American culture, the stunning beauty of nature, as well as the poetry from the artist’s own personal pen, to create collages that celebrate African American life.

Gallery hours are Friday from 2 – 6 p.m., Saturday from 1 – 5 p.m., and by appointment. To schedule an appointment or tour, contact Delphine Hill-Smith, (718) 665-1310.
