CNR Basketball Dominates Win Over Vaughn College

The College of New Rochelle Blue Angels hit the ground running after winter break and have played three games within a week span facing Albany Pharmacy, Cooper Union, and Vaughn College. On their home court at The Wellness Center on January 24, 2011, the Blue Angels were victorious against Vaughn College 48-26.

"The win against Vaughn was a great start! We took the lead early on, and never looked back. It feels good to win with such dominance” said Head Coach Susan Kern. “It was an all-around team effort, all five starters put up points and rebounds. It was a game of constant passing and looking for one another.”

Janine Jones led the Angels with a double-double scoring 23 points and 18 rebounds. Her teammate Elizabeth Johnston had 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals. The Blue Angels power forward, Tempest Harris dominated down low in the paint, and cleaned up the boards in rebounding along with Laguinta Stewart.

"Everyone stepped up this game in regards to their aggressiveness. They were very tough and weren't afraid to get to the basket" said Coach Kern.

As the Angels tried to get back in the grove of things, they took an upset loss against Albany Pharmacy and Cooper Union.  The Blue Angels made sure to keep themselves in both games, chasing down loose balls, blocking big shots, and crashing the boards.

"We had difficulty handling Cooper Union’s pressure, and our ball handling and passing wasn’t up to our pre-break standard" said Coach Kern. The Angels eventually found their momentum and began to execute by gaining some big shots with ball movement and attacking the basket, finishing the 3-game week with their win against Vaughn College.
