CNR Joins More than 250,000 in Planting Peace Pole, International Symbol of Peace

Students, faculty, and staff of The College of New Rochelle gathered on September 21, 2011, all bearing a gold pin with the words “May Peace Prevail on Earth” surrounding the College’s seal.

The crowd walked to stations around Maura Lawn where prayers were given from the Moslem, Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, and Jain religions for those who died on September 11, 2001. The walk concluded at the blessing of the College’s new Peace Pole; there are more than 250,000 Peace Poles in over 180 countries all over the world dedicated as monuments to peace.

The Peace Pole bears the inscription “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in four languages, which reflect the College’s mission and heritage: English; Italian, the native language of St. Angela Merici, Ursuline foundress; and Hebrew and Greek, the original languages of the scriptures.
