Benefit Volleyball Game and Prayer Held for Rajwant Sandhu SAS'12
Rajwant Sandhu SAS’12, who suffered a sudden heart attack during the past summer, was able to attend the benefit volleyball game held in her honor via Facetime on an iPad on October 1, 2011. Her involvement in the College Community prompted the volleyball team to organize this event, which aimed at offsetting her medical costs. They raised $850.
“Raj has always been a phenomenal student. Besides being a biology and chemistry major, Science and Math Society President, and Resident Assistant at Brescia Hall, she also dedicates her time to volunteer and participate in Campus Ministry activities. She contributes to the CNR community in so many ways,” said Jennifer Crowhurst, Campus Minister.
The event included the National Anthem performed by the Gospel Choir, a performance by Black Ice, CNR’s step team, and an opening prayer for Rajwant from Praniece Little SAS’13, a Peer Minister. Students held a 50/50 raffle, a bake sale, and sold bracelets with her name in Rajwant’s favorite colors: red and yellow.
“Raj is a well respected student leader,” said Mary White, Assistant Vice President for Student Services. “It was a day that the community came together to celebrate her and let her know that she is in our thoughts and prayers.”
Zena Jamal SN’12 and Praniece Little SAS’13 started the idea for this event, with the eventual aid of Jaclyn Reynolds SAS’12, Akosuah Agyei SAS'12, Campus Ministry, the Athletics Department, the Student Government Association, and many Campus clubs and organizations.
The effort on Rajwant’s behalf is ongoing. On October 6, 2011, the Community gathered again, this time for a prayer for Rajwant’s recovery, at the Campus Ministry Office.
