"Kamoinge: Revealing the Face of Katrina" Exhibit Opens at Gordon Parks Gallery
Nine artists from Kamoinge, a pioneering photographic collective, worked together to reveal "the face of [Hurricane] Katrina in all its terror, irony, beauty and humanity." This unique exhibition, on display at the Gordon Parks Gallery at The College of New Rochelle's John Cardinal O'Connor Campus in the South Bronx opened on February 17, 2012 and continues through May 6, 2012.
“Kamoinge: Revealing the Face of Katrina,” is an outgrowth of the Katrina Media Fellowship Grant awarded to Kamoinge by the Open Society Institute. The nine Kamoinge members included in the show are Salimah Ali, Gerald Cyrus, Collette V. Fournier, Russell K. Frederick, John Pinderhughes, Herb Robinson, Radcliffe Roye, Frank Stewart and Shawn Walker. The collection is curated by C. Daniel Dawson and John Pinderhughes.
