Blue Angels Earn Weekly Honors in Tennis, Volleyball

The College of New Rochelle Blue Angels started their season strong, collecting accolades from Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference and the Association of Division III Independents.

Tennis

CNR Tennis collected its third consecutive Rookie of the Week award from the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference on September 25, 2012.

Shanique Roye was a double winner in the Blue Angels' home match against John Jay College on Thursday, September 20.  The freshman recorded a dominant, 10-1, win at #6 singles and team with Kendra Michel at #3 doubles for an 8-4 win.  Roye was the only double winner for CNR during the match, earning two crucial points in a 4-4 tie.

Deanna Tozzo SAS'16 was named the tennis rookie of the week by the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference after wins in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles on the road against Medgar Evers College. She triumphed 10-1 in her singles match and teamed with Nancy Varughese for an 8-2 win in doubles as the Blue Angles team posted a 9-0 sweep.

Fellow tennis player Sonia Daniel SAS'13 made the HVWAC weekly Honor Roll after a 10-1 win at No. 3 singles.

Volleyball

Outside/middle hitter Elizabeth Johnston SAS'13 was named volleyball player of the week by the Association of Division III Independents.

Johnston tied the team-high in kills and hit at a .625 clip while playing just two sets in the Blue Angels' road victory over Purchase College September 13. Two days later, she came close to a triple-double against The King's College, with nine kills, 10 digs and a match-high eight service aces, including five consecutive aces during a 12-4 run that forced a deciding fifth set.

Johnston averaged 2.00 kills, 1.7 digs and 0.9 aces per set for the week. It marks the second consecutive week a Blue Angel has received this honor, following Meghan King SAS'15.

Cydney House SAS'16 was named to the HVWAC Honor Roll, for her 13 assists, six aces and five kills against Purchase, followed by 14 assists and six digs against The King's College.
