Mission Statement

The mission of the School of Nursing is congruent with the mission and purposes of its parent institution, The College of New Rochelle.  The educational philosophy of the School of Nursing is formed on three pillars: a liberal arts curriculum, a Catholic heritage, and the value of understanding the human experience.   Encompassing all is a holistic approach to nursing based on a caring-healing framework that defines nursing as caring with compassion, empathy, and altruism with the intention of healing body, mind, and spirit.

Grounded in a holistic world view that recognizes caring-healing as the foundation of nursing, The College of New Rochelle School of Nursing is dedicated to programs of academic excellence.  The curricula of the undergraduate and graduate programs are committed to the formation of knowledgeable caring-healing professionals who are prepared to provide services to society through transformative nursing practice.  The faculty believes that nursing as a service profession has a primary responsibility to address the health care needs of individuals, families, groups and communities.  The professional nurse is a responsible and accountable member of a global society, who is committed to lifelong learning and education.  Lifelong learning requires the continuous pursuit of diverse opportunities for intellectual growth that enable the nurse to respond to the needs of society and advance to full participation and leadership in society.

The undergraduate program is based on a strong foundation of liberal arts and sciences as well as professional studies to prepare a nurse generalist who practices in a variety of settings with clients of all ages from diverse and multicultural populations.  The generalist can assume beginning leadership roles and facilitate change to improve the quality and safety of client care in the healthcare system.  The program provides a foundation for ongoing professional development and graduate study in nursing.

The master’s program prepares a nurse professional at an advanced level of practice who is conversant in social and political arenas that influence social and health care policy on local, state, national and international levels.  The nurse who is prepared at the graduate level can contribute to theory and research development in nursing and to the advancement of the profession.  The program provides a foundation for ongoing professional development and for doctoral study in nursing.
