Gabe,
tell us a little about yourself.
I live in Somers,
New York in northern Westchester with my parents and my younger
brother. At home, I spend a lot of time with my brother, playing
basketball or watching basketball games. Both of us love
basketball. I also work out two or three times a week at the
local gym, trying to keep in shape. And when I can afford it, I travel.
Traveling gives me new perspectives on my life, who I am, and what I
want to be when I finish my schooling.

Where did you go to college?
I went to
SUNY-Stony Brook on Long Island. It’s a great school, and I had a
wonderful time as an undergraduate.

What brought you to The College of New
Rochelle for Graduate School?
When I compared the
tuition costs of graduate schools it was obvious that CNR had the
lowest tuition and the best courses for what I wanted to study. Because
of the low tuition, CNR has given me the opportunity to earn my
graduate degree.

Where do you attend classes on campus?
All of my classes
are on the main campus in New Rochelle.

What are studying?
My master’s degree
will be in School Psychology.

Do you have any favorite teachers here at
the College?
I have a lot of
great teachers. I particularly like Dr. Marie Ribarich. Her sense of
humor, combined with her mastery of the material, is priceless. Her
classes are never dull. Dr. Ribarich has also become a friend and I
rely on her for good advice. She is one of those professors who really
cares about her students.
I also have been
lucky to take classes from Dr. Joseph Schippa. His knowledge of the
profession of school psychology is amazing. I’m hoping to be able to
work as an intern under his supervision next semester. I have been very
lucky when it comes to my professors here in the Graduate School.

What has surprised you
the most about the Graduate School?
Well, one of the
problems I had when I was an undergraduate at Stony Brook is that the
professors were not always accessible. Stony Brook is a very big state
university. Here at CNR all of the professors and administrators are
available to talk to students. A friendly campus atmosphere is really
important to me and makes going to college so much more enjoyable.

Do you have a job on campus, Gabe?
Yes, as a graduate
assistant I work in the Enrollment Management Office.

When do you expect to graduate?

What are your career plans?
I’m studying
psychology because I
want to have a positive role in the lives of children. With my masters,
I know I can have a valuable career as a school psychologist.
