Where do you live, Paul?
I have lived in Rockaway Beach, Queens for sixty-two
years, and I have never thought of moving away from the ocean and my
beachfront co-op.

Do
you have a family?
Yes,
I have two daughters, Monica and Donna. Monica is a third grade school
teacher at St. Rose of Lima here in Rockaway. Donna is a sergeant for
the court officers in Manhattan, but she still lives in Rockaway. One
son, Paul, has followed my steps into the NYFD. He is assigned to the
same company that I was assigned to thirty years ago, Engine 214 in
Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. I am a widower, presently have a
wonderful girlfriend who attends CNR.

Why are you going to
CNR?
Well, my girlfriend recruited me. We are dating
seriously, so how could I let her be a college graduate and not me?

What do you find
challenging about CNR?
Oh, I
would say the management of my time so that I get all my assignments
done on time. The management of my time has taken some work, but the
College is great in helping students get their work done and progress
in school.

When are you in
class?
I go on
Monday and Wednesday evenings, from six to nine. I must say that after
all of this time of not being in school, I look forward to those two
evenings when I am in class.

Tell
us something about your professors?
I am very happy with all of my teachers, especially
Judith Balfe, David Dunn, and Wole Atkinsola, my core professors. They
are experienced teachers who had worked with adults and understand that
as older, returning students we have different needs and requirements
than a traditional age student.

What do you like
best about SNR?
The location of the
campus, the quality of the teaching, and the diversity of students. I
feel that by attending CNR I have been brought back into the light, and
I will always be thankful to The College of New Rochelle for opening
this educational door for me.

When will you
graduate?
I am not
sure when graduation day will be, but certainly by 2007. Then I’ll be
ready for graduate school!
