Stephanie, where did you
go to college?
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the
University of Delaware and my Masters Degree from Saint Peter's College
in New Jersey.

Where did you work before
coming to CNR?
I worked in Admissions at the
College of Saint Elizabeth and at Saint Peter's College.

How long have you been at
The College of New Rochelle?
I have been Director of Admission here at CNR for six
years.

In what regions and states
do you recruit students to the College?
We, of course, look for students within the five
boroughs of New York, as well as upstate New York. We also recruit
throughout New England, and in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and as far
away as Puerto Rico.

How many Admission
Counselors are there in the Office of Admission?
We have an Associate Director
of Admission and five Admission Counselors.

What are you looking for
in a student for The College of New Rochelle?
In general, we are seeking
well rounded students with strong academic records in college prep
curriculums. We also have an outstanding merit scholarship program, as
well as an innovative and challenging Honors Program, which provides
wonderful opportunities for students seeking an added academic
challenge. We seek students who want to be actively engaged in their
educational experience, both inside and outside of the classroom. With
this in mind, we like to see students who have participated in
volunteer work or community service and extracurricular activities in
their high school.

How would a high school
student go about applying to the College if they are interested in the
School of Arts and Sciences or the School of Nursing?
A student should submit an
application for admission along with their official high school
transcript, SAT or ACT scores, essay, and a letter of recommendation
from a teacher or guidance counselor. They can request an application
from the Office of Admission by phone, in writing, or just by visiting
our website: www.cnr.edu. Our application form can be downloaded from
our website.

When is a good time for a
student to visit CNR?
I recommend that a student
visit in the fall when they are initially investigating colleges to
which they are considering applying. They should then visit again after
they have been accepted, and before they make a final decision about
enrolling in school.

What are the advantages in
your mind of attending The College of New Rochelle?
There are many, many advantages of being a student at
The College of New Rochelle. But let me try and list a few. The College
offers an outstanding academic program that combines the benefits of a
value-centered, liberal arts education with opportunities to gain
hands-on experience through internships, fieldwork, and participation
in research.
We are also ideally sized so
students can get the most out of their academic experience. All of our
students have warm, friendly access to an outstanding faculty. Our
professors know their students and are mentors as well as teachers. The
classroom experience in most situations is interactive and dynamic,
with many opportunities for discussion, conversation, and debate. I
know that this kind of academic experience is particularly important in
preparing students for the world beyond school and life after college.
Through the interaction with their peers and professors, our students
are able to develop their own ideas and options, learn to listen to
others and collaborate, and express themselves in an effective and
articulate manner. This is a tremendous advantage for students as they
go on to graduate or professional school or out into the professional
world.
Also, we are in a great
location. From our campus, students can be in New York City within
thirty minutes. This is particularly important for field trips,
internships, and, of course, just going into the City to have fun. All
of that is possible while living on a beautiful twenty-acre campus in a
residential area of New Rochelle.
Here on campus, our Student Services provide an excellent complement to
the academic programs offered at the College, with many on-campus
events from films to plays.
In
addition to our academic program, our undergraduate students also
develop their leadership skills through participation in the student
clubs and organizations, sports, and other activities. Coming to CNR
either in the School of Arts and Sciences or the School of Nursing
means being a part of a great campus community.
Finally, I
believe attending a Catholic women's college is in itself the advantage
that provides the foundation for the success of our students. Our young
women are part of a community that encourages their intellectual,
social, spiritual and professional development in a unique way. At The
College of New Rochelle the accomplishments, talents, achievements and
ambitions of young women are more than simply acknowledged, they are
celebrated and encouraged.
Because of our special nature
as a women's college, our graduates are not only well educated and
prepared to compete in the professional world, they are also ready to
be leaders, confident in who they are and what they can achieve and
contribute to society. Just look at our alumnae. The proof is in our
fabulous graduates.
