Giovanna,
where are you from?
I am from Queens and
I attended Hillcrest High School in Jamaica, Queens.

How did you hear about The College of New Rochelle?
I met an admissions counselor at a
college fair at the Javits Center.

What other colleges did you consider and why did you pick CNR?
I also considered Mount St. Vincent,
Adelphi and St. Joseph's College. I chose to attend CNR because I
loved how welcoming and helpful everyone from the students to the
faculty and staff were when I visited during an Open House.
What is your major?
I am a Business
major, with a career track in Finance and a minor in Psychology.

Tell us about some of your favorite professors and why you like them.
Because the College is so small I have
developed strong relationships with many of my professors. Two of my
favorite professors are Professor Linda Lopresti and Professor Chris
Lovergine, who are both full time professors in the Business
department. Although they are polar opposites in their teaching
styles, they are both extremely dedicated to their students and are
always willing to provide help to anyone who asks for it.

What clubs or organizations are you involved with as a student?
I
have been a Resident Assistant for the last three years. I also work in
the Office of Student Development. I help to organize campus-wide
programs and events.

Do
you go into New York City often?
Yes, I do. That is one aspect of the
College that I love. It is very convenient to New York City. I’m
usually in Manhattan four times a week, going to shows, museums,
shopping or just to meet my friends and hang out in the Big Apple.

Do
you have a job off campus?
Yes, I am currently
interning at an accounting firm in the city. I also work on campus in
the Office of Student Development.

Tell
us about your recent experience overseas?
Oh, that was wonderful. I studied abroad
last semester in Italy. It was the most amazing experience that I have
ever had. Living abroad for almost four months was such an eye opening
experience for me. I learned so much about the cultural differences of
people from all around the world as well as learning the Italian
language. Living in a foreign country and being completely immersed in
another culture really changed my view of the world and aided me in
developing into the woman that I want to be.

How
did the opportunity to study abroad come about for you?
I always wanted to
study abroad but got discouraged when I inquired about the cost.
I was then informed by Dr. Andre Beauzither who coordinates the Study
Abroad program about the Taylor Foundation's scholarship for CNR
students wanting to study overseas. This scholarship made it possible
for my dream to become a reality.

When
do you graduate, Giovanna?
I will be graduating next year, in May of
2008.

What
are your career plans?
I plan on getting a masters degree in
accounting and eventually becoming a Certified Public Accountant. I am
also thinking of getting a TEFL certificate so that I can teach English
in Japan after I graduate.
