Students majoring in Chemistry at CNR receive a strong background in the major branches of chemistry through a core of courses, the heart of which is the two-year physical-analytical sequence. Course offerings enable the Chemistry major to prepare for graduate school, medical or dental school, research in industry or the health sciences, secondary school teaching, or the field of chemical literature.

During senior year, students take advantage of the opportunity for student research on campus or internship appointments with local industries and research institutes. The department is closely allied with the American Chemical Society and strongly encourages students to participate in its activities, particularly the lecture series and short courses offered each year.

The faculty of three full-time members is supplemented by several adjuncts and a laboratory manager. The physical facilities of the Chemistry Department consist of five laboratories and include an instrumental laboratory and microcomputer facilities.
