The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is the first professional degree in nursing and prepares women and men with the knowledge and skills to provide nursing care in all settings, serve as advocates for clients and the profession, and assume leadership roles in health care. We offer programs for the traditional aged high school graduates and transfer students, individuals with previous college degrees looking to change careers as well as for Registered Nurses seeking to advance their education.
The Learning Center for Nursing, located in Angela Hall, provides a place where students may practice nursing skills in an environment devoted to educational support of baccalaureate and graduate students. Registered nurses serve as preceptors to students for individualized instruction, tutoring, and mentoring. The Learning Center for Nursing is composed of four specialized areas: a nursing laboratory, a media laboratory, a computer center, and a group instruction room.
With two Nursing Laboratories designed for the teaching and reinforcement of basic and advanced nursing skills, simulation of both hospital settings and community clinical practice settings are possible. Client care units are equipped with variable height beds, over-bed tables, bedside cabinets, and medication areas, wall-mounted oto/opthalmoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, and examination tables. Mannequins, models, and simulators, facilitate learning and allow for realistic practice of a wide array of skills.
The Media Laboratory offers a variety of individual TV/VCR/DVD units for group or class learning. The media library, updated annually, contains over 700 pieces of audiovisual material covering critical nursing skills and reinforcing key areas of knowledge.
The Nursing Computer Centers provide an area where nursing students learn, practice, and integrate computer skills and nursing knowledge. The main laboratory houses 15 computers with 11 additional computers located in the LCN annex. All computers have updated software for classroom work and presentations, as well as CD-ROM programs to provide an interactive learning experience. In addition, health assessment streaming videos are available to all nursing students on campus and at home via the CNR intranet.
Our Group Instruction Room is designed to facilitate independent study, small group study, and research activity. It houses a private library of nursing textbooks available for student use.
The College of New Rochelle offers nursing students a variety of resources to enhance their academic experience:
