College to Build $25 Million Wellness Center
The College of New Rochelle will break ground this summer for a $25 Million interdisciplinary center dedicated to wellness education for CNR students and the New Rochelle community. The 60,000-square-foot Wellness Center will be unique in the greater New York metropolitan area, bringing together and integrating multiple disciplines to help students understand and practice the principles of healthy living and wellness throughout their lives.   m o r e

Nursing Educator Master’s program begins in September
Dean Donna Demarest has announced a new state-certified Master’s Nurse Educator program to start this fall. This master’s program puts nurses on a 34-credit track to become educators and is designed to help address the critical shortage of nurse educators.  m o r e

Dr. Cynthia Kraman, SAS Associate Professor of English, delivered a paper entitled “Ego Dormio: Insomnia, Desire, and the Song of Songs in Levinas” at the 40th International Congress on Medieval Studies held in May at Western Michigan University. Dr. Kraman is cited as a contributor to sessions of the newly created Societas Ovidiana in The Book of Forty compiled by The Medieval Institute. Also in May Dr. Kraman gave a reading with Poetry Flash editor/publisher Joyce Jenkins in Detroit, and work from her Summer Night Poems series appear in the recent The Café Review.


SAS Honors Program Director, Dr. Amy Bass, has had an article entitled “What Honors Students Are Like Now” accepted for publication by the Journal of the National Collegiate Honors Council.


Michael Grabowski, SAS Assistant Professor of Communication Arts, has been elected the Media Ecology Association representative to the 2006 Eastern Communication Association convention in Philadelphia. He will organize the call for papers and panels for the division next year.


Adjunct Associate Professor of Business, Russel R. Taylor, a Trustee of Richmond University in London, England, received an honorary Doctor of International Business in May from this American international university.


Dale Drakeford, SNR Co-op City Campus Instructional Staff, read from his new publication, A Universal Template for Research Position and Life Experience Papers, at the Co-op City Barnes & Noble in May.


A L U M N A E / I  N E W S

Dr. Emelise Aleandri SAS ’65, has been selected as a Queens Woman of Distinction for 2005. The Women of Distinction program honors exemplary women throughout New York State whose singular professional or personal achievements, commitment to excellence, accomplishments and dedicated service on behalf of their communities merit them special recognition by the State Senate.

Donald Paglieri, who received a Professional Diploma in School District Administration from CNR in 1988, has been selected the 2005 Man of the Year by the Pelham Civic Association. Mr Paglieri is being recognized for his many contributions to the Pelham community, and for his “qualities of character that truly define a gentleman,” according to the president of the Pelham Civic Association.
