CALENDAR FOR WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH

NEW
ROCHELLE, NY, March 1, 2005 -- In honor of Women's History Month in
March, The College of New Rochelle’s month-long celebration at its Main
Campus will feature a diverse range of events. The events, all open to
the public, include:
2005 Dowell Lecture: Faye Lederman
followed by screening of “A Good Lift”
Wednesday,
March 2, 6:30 pm, Student Campus Center, Rooms B & C

by the Women’s Studies Department in the School of Arts & Sciences
The
Dowell Lecture series was endowed by Dr. George B. Dowell, in memory of
his sister, Elvira M. Dowell, a 1936 graduate of the School of Arts
& Sciences. The 2005 Dowell Lecturer will be Faye Lederman, who
will speak on documentary film production and distribution, followed by
a screening of the short film A Good
Uplift, (about a Lower East Side
lingerie shop), produced and directed by Faye Lederman, Cheryl
Furjanic, and Eve Lederman. After the screening, Ms. Lederman will lead
a body image workshop for women (pre-teens through adults) that will
offer a critical look at how body image is defined, shaped and
constructed by media forces and societal expectations. For more

LUNAFEST™

CNR
was selected as the only metro-NY area participant in the 4th Annual
LUNAFEST, a national event hosted in more than 35 cities from
coast-to-coast. The eight film shorts, made by, for, and about women,
cover a wide range of topics and issues facing women today. Proceeds
from CNR’s event will
support The Breast Cancer Fund (TBCF), a non-profit organization
dedicated to addressing the environmental causes of breast
cancer. New Rochelle native Jeanne Rizzo, who heads The Breast
Cancer Fund, will be present on March 4 to discuss their work,
preventable causes of breast cancer, and host a Q&A session.

2nd Annual CNR “Take
Back the Night”
Thursday,

Meet
at Student Campus Center followed by the march across campus
Take
Back the Night is an international rally and march that is organized in
local communities with the purpose of unifying women, men, and children
in an awareness of violence against women, children and families.
CNR will hold its second Take Back the Night event, co-sponsored by the
campus chapter of Amnesty International, the CNR Community Task Force,
Student Development and Programs, and the Women's Studies program.
The event will begin
with participants meeting at the Student Campus Center for poetry
readings and addresses by faculty, students, and representatives of
Campus Ministry. The group will march across campus to Maura Ballroom,
where Karen Coleman, RN, SANE-A, Westchester County Sexual Assault
Nurse Examiner Coordinator, will address the group on the topic of
violence against women. People who would like to join with the
CNR community in making our campus and community a safe and secure
place for all are invited to participate in this event. For more

The first Catholic
college for women in New York State,
The
College of New Rochelle was founded in 1904 by the Ursuline Order.
Today,
it comprises the all-women School of Arts & Sciences, and three
schools
which admit women and men: the School of New Resources (for adult
learners),
the School of Nursing and the Graduate School. The main campus of
the College is located in lower Westchester County, 16 miles north of
