With the weather cooperating for a day of fun-filled outdoor activities for people of all ages, the 33rd Annual Strawberry Festival was an exciting day for families, students, faculty, staff, and alumnae/i.  It took place on Sunday, May 1, 2005 from 12 noon to 5:00 p.m. on Maura Lawn on the College’s Main Campus in New Rochelle.

Entertainment at the event included Pause For Effect, a soulful rock band from Columbia, SC; Paul Plays it All, a one man band who played multiple instruments at once; student presentations ranging from cheerleading to belly dancing; and a performance of The 15 Minute Hamlet by CNR Drama.

Children-oriented activities included face painting, wax hand sculpture, photo key chains, Moon Bounce House, and the Giant Slide.  Refreshments included chocolate-covered strawberries, strawberry smoothies, strawberry shortcake, as well as hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, popcorn, and more.

The Strawberry Festival, which was introduced to CNR in 1973, is the single largest event organized entirely by the College’s undergraduates. The concept of the Strawberry Festival originated in the mid-west during the 1890’s as an American festival celebrating the ripening of strawberries, the blooming of lilacs, and the coming of summer.
