Dr. H Michael Dreher
Dr. H. Michael Dreher was appointed as Associate Vice President Healthcare Innovation & Special Projects for the College July 2017. As Associate Vice President, Dr. Dreher focuses on developing strategies to further enhance the College’s course offerings in healthcare professional fields, expand academic partnerships, and lead specific institutional projects.
Previously he served as Dean of the School of Nursing at the College June 2014 –June 2017. As dean, the School was renamed the School of Nursing & Healthcare Professions to better reflect the breadth of the School’s educational offerings as it expanded in response to an emerging healthcare landscape. Under his leadership, enrollment and NCLEX scores increased markedly. The School's reputation as a regional leader in nursing education, emphasizing digital technologies and graduates with strong, holistic, compassionate professional nursing skills, continued to strengthen.
Dr. Dreher has long been an innovator in healthcare professions in and outside nursing education both nationally and internationally. At Drexel, he created an MS in Nursing Innovation, constructed as a degree alternative for nurses interested in design and invention, and intra and entrepreneurialism to improve nursing and healthcare. There he also founded one of the first Doctor of Nursing Practice programs in the US, a program that emphasized applied clinical scholarship. He previously served as Associate Editor of Holistic Nursing Practice, writing a column on “Innovation, Health, & Healing.”
He is the co-author of five books, three of which have won the American Journal of Nursing Book-of-the-Year Award. He has been funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation, the Center for American Nurses, HRSA, and various other agencies. He was inducted a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing in 2012 and an Academy of Nursing Education Fellow in 2017.
