The Art Education Major focuses her attention on studio fundamentals and electives, liberal studies, and courses in education. This triple route combines proficiency in the fine arts with New York State provisional certification for teaching art in grades K through 12.

REQUIREMENTS

An candidate for the Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education must complete 60 credits in liberal studies and 60 credits in professional studies. The 60 credits in liberal studies must include:

* Freshmen Art Colloquium
* Sophomore Art Colloquium
* Junior Seminar
* Senior Seminar
* Survey of Western Art
* Survey of African or Eastern or Indian-Islamic Art
* Twentieth Century Art in Europe or Art Since 1945
* Philosophy of Education
* Adolescent Psychology
* Educational Psychology


Included in the 60 credits in professional studies are:

* Fundamentals of Drawing
* Figure Drawing
* Fundamentals of Painting
* Design Foundation I
* Design Foundation II
* Design Foundation III
* Fundamentals of Sculpture
* The Teaching of Art in Secondary School
* The Teaching of Art in Elementary School
* Field Work Education
* Observation and Student Teaching and
* 18-20 credits in studio electives


During her senior year, each Art Education major presents a senior thesis paper and participates in a group show. Seniors who have demonstrated outstanding competency may be chosen by the Art Department faculty to present a solo exhibition.
