The
Art Department in the School of Arts & Sciences at The College of
New Rochelle is offering a course for high school students seeking to
develop a college admission portfolio and improve their studio art skills
in drawing, painting and sculpture. Additional topics will include developing
a theme for a series, creative problem-solving strategies and careers
in the visual arts. The course provides preparation for applying to college
programs and introducesstudents to the issues of studying art and design
in college.

Course Description
An introduction to the fundamentals of drawing, painting and sculpture
and an exploration into visual thinking. Advice will be given on how to
develop a strong portfolio for college admission. Students are encouraged
to bring samples of previously created artwork to be reviewed individually
with the instructor in order to discuss their personal strengths and suggestions
for future development. Students are encouraged to express their individual
perceptions of the world. Reading assignments and slide presentations
introduce art historical concepts.

Housing
The Pre-College
course is designed for students who live locally; no campus housing is
available.
Supplies
Students must provide
their own supplies. A list of required and recommended materials will
be handed out on the first day of class. Expenses range from $50 to $75.
