pre-college portfolio workshop Summer 2008

Develop a college admission portfolio. Improve your studio art skills in drawing, painting and sculpture. Prepare for a career in the visual arts.

The Art Department in the School of Arts & Sciences at The College of New Rochelle is offering a course for high school students seeking to develop a college admission portfolio and improve their studio art skills in drawing, painting and sculpture. Additional topics will include developing a theme for a series, creative problem-solving strategies and careers in the visual arts. The course provides preparation for applying to college programs and introducesstudents to the issues of studying art and design in college.

Course Description
An introduction to the fundamentals of drawing, painting and sculpture and an exploration into visual thinking. Advice will be given on how to develop a strong portfolio for college admission. Students are encouraged to bring samples of previously created artwork to be reviewed individually with the instructor in order to discuss their personal strengths and suggestions for future development. Students are encouraged to express their individual perceptions of the world. Reading assignments and slide presentations introduce art historical concepts.

 

Cancellation Policy:
Once course begins there is no refund.

Housing
The Pre-College course is designed for students who live locally; no campus housing is available.

Supplies
Students must provide their own supplies. A list of required and recommended materials will be handed out on the first day of class. Expenses range from $50 to $75.

 

Course Calendar and Hours:
June 23rd-July 16 2008 (10 sessions)
Monday, Wednesday, & Friday 9 am -12 noon
July 4 no class

Admission to the Pre-College Program
Enrollment is open to students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year in high school, or for recent high school graduates. The course is rigorous, introducing students to college-level work. Homework is demanding and assigned on a regular basis. Space is limited and enrollment is on a first come basis.

Tuition
If payment is received by:
June 1 $300
after June 1 $375

Art Scholarships at CNR
Students may submit a portfolio to apply for an Art Scholarship at The College of New Rochelle. This scholarship is applied towards tuition when students enroll as an Art major at the College. Students interested in applying to the Art Department at The College of New Rochelle should contact the Office of Admissions at 800-933-5923 or 914-654-5452.
