All shifts are staffed by either the Security Director, Lieutenant, or Security Supervisors - either Sergeants or Corporals. These supervisors are identifiable by their white shirts and gold badges, and are in charge of the personnel working on their shift and for decision-making. All Security Officers are College employees - we do not use contract security. This allows our officers to become familiar with the campus and members of the College community in order to better provide a safe and secure environment. Our staff is comprised of a combination of full- and part-time employees, all of whom are licensed by New York State as Security Officers. The licensing process includes fingerprinting and a background investigation, and requires 24 hours of initial instruction with an 8-hour annual in-service refresher course. Officers also participate in mandatory training programs provided regularly by the College. Vehicular and foot patrols are conducted by the Security Officers 24 hours/7 days a week, including holidays. The major concern of Security Officers is to protect persons and property at the College from harm. They are responsible for protecting the buildings and areas to which they are assigned. In addition to their regular patrol, the officers respond immediately to emergencies, escort members of the College community, issue parking summonses, and open and close various facilities.
