Counseling Services
Like everyone, college students face difficult life transitions and circumstances and need assistance in developing meaningful goals. Our Counseling & Career Services (CCS) staff facilitate academic progress and help students successfully achieve their career goals. Our counselors are professionally trained to help students cope with a wide variety of educational, adjustment, and mental health issues. The counseling relationship allows students to confidentially discuss their personal thoughts and feelings.

Common Counseling Topics
CCS counselors are glad to speak with students about any issue causing concern or distress, including anxiety, depression, loneliness, eating disorders, alcohol and other drugs, rape and abuse issues, assertiveness, relationship issues, communication skills, time management, academic problems, and issues related to sexuality. Counseling discussions are private and confidential.

Length of Counseling
Counseling sessions usually last an hour. Depending on the nature of the concern, counseling may be one session, or once a week for a semester. The students and counselor may discuss further counseling sessions or additional options, such as a referral to an off-campus specialist.

Eligibility for Personal Counseling
CCS provides personal counseling, free of charge, to students in the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Nursing. Other students may consult a counselor in order to obtain information or an off-campus referral.

Appointments
Individual counseling appointments may be scheduled by phone at (914) 654-5562 or in person at Mooney Center, Room 150.
