How do I apply?

Is the GRE required?
No.

When is the application due? 
We accept applications on a rolling basis.

Does my undergraduate degree have to be in English or Creative Writing?
No. We believe that good writing can come from a variety of educational backgrounds and experiences.

How long will it take me to complete the degree? 
The MFA at CNR is a 36-credit program. Full-time students complete the program in two years. Part-time options are also available.

Is there a poetry concentration?
No. The MFA at CNR only offers concentrations in fiction and creative nonfiction at this time.

Are there teaching opportunities for MFA students?
Yes. We have a teaching fellowship program. MFA students will be given training and the opportunity to teach in the undergraduate writing program at The College of New Rochelle.

What work should I submit?
Submit thirty pages of your best work. For the fiction concentration, you can submit an excerpt from a novel or a series of short stories. For the creative nonfiction concentration, you can submit an excerpt from a memoir or a series of creative nonfiction essays.

How should I format my submission?
Please double-space your submission and include your name at the top of each page.

Will I be able to maintain a full-time job while in the MFA program?
Yes. Our classes and readings are scheduled in the evenings to accommodate individuals with full-time jobs.

Is there campus housing available?
Yes. We have graduate housing available for our MFA students.
