Campus Safety

At The College of New Rochelle, we are committed to ensuring that our students, faculty, and staff at the College are as free as possible from any threats to their safety or well-being. In support of that commitment, numerous safety measures are in place at our Main Campus in New Rochelle as well as at our city campuses.

In the event of an emergency, please call our switchboard at (914) 654-5000 at any time.

  • At the Main Campus, vehicular and foot patrols are conducted by the Security Officers 24 hours/7 days a week, including holidays.  At the city campuses, in Brooklyn, Co-op City, South Bronx and Harlem, Security staff is present during campus hours. Security at the DC-37 Campus is provided by the building owner.
  • All Security Officers are College employees -- we do not use contract security.  This allows our officers to become familiar with the campus and members of the College Community.  Our staff is comprised of a combination of full- and part-time employees, all of whom are licensed by New York State as Security Officers.  The licensing process includes fingerprinting and a background investigation and requires 24 hours of initial instruction with an 8-hour annual in-service refresher course.  Officers also participate in mandatory training programs provided regularly by the College.
  • All shifts are staffed by either the Security Director, Lieutenant, or Security Supervisors -- either Sergeants or Corporals.  These supervisors are identifiable by their white shirts and gold badges, and are in charge of the personnel working on their shift and for decision-making.
  • Emergency blue light phones are located around the Main Campus, outside buildings, and on poles in visible locations including the parking lots. These phones are campus extension phones, identifiable by the blue light that flashes above them.  They can be used to call Security or 911 in the event of an emergency.
  • Our Security Escort Service is available 24 hours a day at the Main Campus.  A uniformed officer will escort members of the College Community to or from parking lots, residence halls, or other buildings.
  • The Information/Security Center (also known as the Booth), located on Castle Place at the Main Campus, is staffed by a uniformed Security Officer from 7:00 a.m - midnight, seven days a week.  This post is responsible for greeting and providing information to visitors to the campus.  Visitor parking tags are issued through the booth.
  • Over the course of the year, the Safety/Security Department provides a number of programs, workshops and drop-ins designed to provide specialized information to the College Community on a host of topics, including substance abuse, relationship violence, fire safety, commuter safety, and property security. Videos and brochures covering a number of issues are also available.
