As a leader in higher education in healthcare, The College of New Rochelle (CNR) School of Nursing & Healthcare Professions recently announced a new Pharmacy Technician Certification Program, which will be offered at its new Rosa Parks Campus located in Harlem. The program is ideal for individuals looking to enter the rapidly growing field of healthcare.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nearly 50,000 new pharmacy technician positions are expected to become available across the country in the next several years. And, the United States Department of Labor has indicated that community healthcare workers have grown by 27 percent.
”Given The College of New Rochelle’s long history of providing its students with a superior education in nursing, we are pleased to expand that excellence to others areas of healthcare,” says Dr. Debra Simons, Dean of the School of Nursing & Healthcare Professions. “Our new Pharmacy Technician Program offers a valuable learning opportunity that combines an equal emphasis on classroom study and practical experience to provide students with the strongest all-around foundation in the field.”
The Pharmacy Technician Certification Program includes 160 hours of training, which consists of 80 hours of theory and 80 hours of externships at an institution and a local retail community pharmacy. The externship is arranged by the course facilitator upon successful completion of classes.
The program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed for employment in a pharmacy, in a capacity that involves filling prescription orders under the direction of a pharmacist. In addition, the course offers extensive preparation for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s examination, which is a requirement for professional practice. After completing the program, students are fully-prepared to sit for the PTCE certification exam.
The School of Nursing & Healthcare Professions currently offers several bachelor's and master's degree and post-master's certificate programs, which are accredited by The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). All nursing programs at The College of New Rochelle are registered and approved by the New York State Education Department.
