Pharmacy Technician Certification
The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment of pharmacy technicians will increase much faster than average over the next several years, with good job prospects for those entering the field. The Pharmacy Technician Certification Program offered by The College of New Rochelle School of Nursing & Healthcare Professions prepares students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's (PTCB) exam to become certified.
The program is 160 hours and consists of 80 hours of theory and 80 hours of externship at an institution and at a local retail community pharmacy. The ability to integrate theory into real situations within the pharmacy setting will take place during the externship. The externship will be arranged by the course facilitator upon successful completion of classes.
Pharmacy Technicians work in pharmacies under the direction of a pharmacist. Their key responsibility is filling prescriptions according to the treating prescribers orders under the supervision of a pharmacist. Technicians work in diverse settings which include: home infusion pharmacies, hospitals, an community pharmacies.
Certification takes place through PTCB and is achieved by meeting specific eligibility requirements:
- Earning a passing score on the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE).
- Full disclosure of all criminal and State Board of Pharmacy registration or licensure actions.
- Compliance with all applicable PTCB Certification policies.
Admission Requirements (Up to 20 Students)
Candidates need a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent to be considered for admission.
Tuition for the program is $2,500. A tuition deposit of $1,500 is due at the time of registration and does not include the cost of the textbook, practice exam or a lab coat.
