Second Degree Accelerated Program

The College of New Rochelle School of Nursing & Healthcare Professions Second Degree Accelerated Nursing Track is a program designed for students who already have  a baccalaureate degree in a non-nursing field of study. The program of study is an Accelerated Five-Semester, Full-Time Second Degree Program. Candidates must be in good standing at the institution from which their bachelor’s degree was conferred and must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. At the time of applying, at least 6 of the 8 prerequisites must be completed, and the remaining must be in progress.  All prerequisite courses must be completed prior to enrolling in the program. This program is offered in fall, spring and summer . 

The total Accelerated Second Degree BS in Nursing is 125 credits. Students are admitted to CNR as undergraduates with 36 advanced standing credits based on credits earned while obtaining a bachelor’s degree plus 25 additional prerequisite requirements completed prior to matriculation. Students will obtain the additional 64 credits earned during five semesters of full-time continuous study.

Required Prerequisites, awarded 25 credits (Must achieve a minimum of C+)

  • General Chemistry/Lab (4 cr.)
  • General Psychology (3 cr.)
  • Development Psychology (3 cr.) must cover lifespan
  • Anatomy and Physiology I/Lab (3.5 cr.)
  • Anatomy and Physiology II/Lab (3.5 cr.)
  • Microbiology/Lab (3 cr.)
  • Statistics (3 cr.)
  • Nutritional Science (2 cr.)

Second Degree Application Requirements:

  • Official transcripts of all schools attended
  • Personal Statement discussing “Why I wish to be a nurse and study at The College of New Rochelle”
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Letters of Recommendation (optional)

PLEASE NOTE:
At The College of New Rochelle nursing students in all programs are assigned to clinical rotations at some of the leading clinical agencies in the world. Transportation is a requirement of the program. Students should expect that clinical can be any day of the week. While students may have some opportunities to request a clinical site placement it cannot be guaranteed that they will receive that placement. Clinical rotations are scheduled Monday through Saturday with available clinical faculty. At present, there are no Sunday clinicals.

Students may wish to take a graduate general core elective for students wishing to pursue a Master’s degree in Nursing program at the College of New Rochelle (Graduate general core courses are limited to specific courses and specific Master’s degree in Nursing programs , must see advisor).
